CIP Leveraged Fund Advisors (CLFA)
Northland Securities, Inc. sold some investors CIP Leveraged Fund Advisors LLC (CLFA), a
private placement (regulation D offering) according to SEC records.
CLFA was a company
that purported to be a REIT manager but did not succeed. As
a seller of private placements, broker dealers like Harvest are
required to conduct a reasonable investigation of the offering, its
management and the likelihood of success of the venture as well as to
assess the suitability of the investment for the particular investor.
Regulators Seldom Recover Losses for Investors
Surprising as it seems, FINRA, the Securities & Exchange Commission and state securities regulators seldom recover losses and return them to the average investor. When the retirement funds are gone and a suit needs to be brought for recovery, that job is almost always done by attorneys who pursue firms and brokers through FINRA arbitration. If you think you have a claim against Northland Securities you need to consult a law firm that has experience dealing with brokerage firms.
Arbitrations are brought for fraud, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, negligence, statutory violations or because the broker made unsuitable investments in your account which have caused you damage, and as a result you may be having difficulty meeting ordinary living and health related expenses.
Arbitration is quick, usually about a year or less, and the costs are generally minimal.
Brokers like Northland Securities owe their customers a duty to make suitable and appropriate investments, taking into account each individuals investment objectives and risk tolerance.
